A little hard, but not too hard. With smart tactics or with replaying some levels to collet more money for upgrades you can win all level with all 3 stars.. So this recomendation comes with a caveat. The recomendation is for those who like Tower Defense games, as the difficulty seems to not be optimized and some levels are really tough, not due to the enemies, but more due to the restriction on where you can put towers, and the path of the creeps. You will fly through 3 or 4 levels with three stars, and then hit a map that will have you stuck for a while until you find that sweet spot of tower types and locations.You will be "farming" earlier levels very early in the game to get enough gems to buy the tower upgrades required to beat later levels.All in all there are only 6 towers overall, 4 base towers, and 2 of those able to split into a specialised tower type (similar to a lot of TD games these days). There also seems to be only around 15 or so enemy types, and these are really just AoE groups, unarmoured and armoured. There is no other considerations in terms of resistances to worry about.If you would like a game that has realistic achievements, and will give you a sense of progression, but isn't as "hard core" as some TD games and their achievements, then you might find this enjoyable.All in all, I got this game for $1.80 during the recent sales and it gave me multiple hours of entertainment. I suggest waiting for the sales to get this, as there are other TD games (such as Super Sanctum TD which goes on sale for $0.30) that have a lot more meat to them for less cost.. The game is simple, there are only two attack towers, one slowing tower and two traps. There are two currencies in the game, another obvious tell-tale sign of a mobile game, but the game is quite generous with both. There are no keybindings at all, everything must be played with a mouse.Overall an OK tower defense, nothing special.. Can't recommend it right now. I'm on level...8 or 9 out of 35, and it gotten so difficult that I can't finish the level after many attempts, and I refuse to go back and replay old levels to get more gems for upgrades. I'm not exactly sure what the difficult scales with but after upgrading a lot of towers in the upgrade section, I'm having a hard time even beating old early levels to gain more gems. The artwork is nice and the Hamalian enemies you face are funny. Although the levels look quite simple and lack variety, they are reasonably well balanced. In order to progress, you must often reset your upgrades and try spending them a different way. It is a game where you must win all the levels with maximum points to earn the upgrades you will need later. It is challenging, but not quite as much as some other tower defence games.. Not a bad Tower Defense. The grind some other reviews mention seems mostly rectified, I only redid 2 older heists to get 3 stars and made it throught the campaign fine with my upgrades, shuffling about as needed. Definitely easier with more gems grinded though, surely, but it's not required.Hint; Destroy your mines before a mission ends to get some bonus gold as gems.Replayed some heists after finishing for 3 stars (since kill-achievement left) and by the time I got the 30k kills I got 119/120 stars.Finishing the campaign also unlocks unlimited waves on all maps, seems a bit odd to unlock so late and the gems-reward is really bad so I didn't really played with it.Challenge feels about right, although the random element of gold drops which affect your silver (actual spendable cash) income is still there. It never screwed me over though.Gems you get from completion (more gold and less base damage is more gems) can be used to upgrade the guns and weapons and if you don't grind several levels do require you to swap around a bit. This is of course a good thing, but the UI isn't really too friendly for this, locking gems away if you sell towers, and not allowing simply to sell one upgrade so if you want one change you need to do a full reset and start over. Could be better.Towers are few. Your basic guns and magic (for armor and magic foes respectfully). Basic towers can split in advanced, big gun and missile launcher for the guns, and bigger magic and anti-armour for the magic tower. Then there's slowing towers with poison (which should be used to slow and poison enemies 24/7) and buff-towers, which see the least use since the small setup maps generally have few spots that benefit these. Can't say I notice their impact much even fully upgraded, but if there's a spot a gun isn't good at, why not?Balance is overall fine, except for Re-animators which I feel are too strong (high HP + fast regeneration? Too much). Missile launchers are too weak, and I figured anti-armour towers would be great for bosses but they aren't affected. What are they good for then? Overall some info is lacking like what default values are for some upgrades, what Project 320 upgrade does (nothing?), what armour destruction even *does* (I still don't know), or the icons when selecting units mean.Overall, counting pro's and con's I can recommend it for TD-fans though. It's a pretty good stepin for beginners too. No nonsense like Defense Grid's economy system, not overwhelming like GemCraft which I tried getting back into and I had no idea what the hell was going on anymore, at all, but also nowhere near Defender's Quest level of excellence.. Pro : Cute game as you can see from the tutorial. but Con: the difficulty level rises absurdly quick, I'm stuck at the beggining of the second map, first map was tutorial. Lots of grinding needed to upgrade and there are no dificulty levels. I just wanna see it through since I payed for it. At least I got it in a bundle, can't cry to much about the wasted money. :(
